Welcome to the Bakarwal Dog Conservation Initiative
Preserving the Legacy of Kashmir's Endangered Shepherd Breed
Bakarwal Dogs, also known as the Bakharwal Mastiff or Kashmir Mastiff, are a rare and ancient breed native to the nomadic Bakarwal and Gujjar tribes of Pakistan and India specific to Kashmir and Pir Panjal range. These majestic dogs have been loyal protectors and herders for centuries, playing a crucial role in the lives and livelihoods of the mountain communities.
About Bakarwal Dogs
Bakarwal Dogs are known for their strength, resilience, and unwavering loyalty. They are ideally suited for the rugged terrain and harsh climates of the Himalayan region, where they have traditionally guarded livestock against predators and served as faithful companions to their human families. Despite their noble heritage and invaluable contributions, the Bakarwal Dog population is rapidly declining, putting this unique breed at risk of extinction.
Our Mission
The Bakarwal Dog Conservation Initiative is dedicated to preserving and protecting this endangered breed. Our mission is to raise awareness about the plight of the Bakarwal Dogs, support breeding programs, and work with local communities to ensure their survival for future generations.

Meet Our Pups
-
Geetu
Geetu is the youngest, cutest, and most innocent of the three puppies. As a singleton, he naturally had adjustment problems with the other puppies due to his uncontrolled biting force, leading to multiple episodes of fighting among them. Most of the time, Geetu has a quiet personality, but when his energy kicks in, the other puppies tend to stay away from him.
-
Lilly
If you have young kids, Lily’s the perfect dog. Part playmate, part nanny, she’ll tire them out while keeping a watchful eye on everything. She also loves to cuddle at night!
-
Bhoori
Intelligent, alert and a bit mischievous, Bhoori is always up for an adventure. Whether you’re jumping in the car for a weekend road trip or going for a run, she’ll be by your side.
